Installation of Vinyl Flooring

Resilient vinyl flooring has over the years continued to be extremely DIY friendly. It is perfect for use in kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms since it is easy to clean up, durable and water resistant.  This means that they don’t fade, stain or even dent. They will perfectly fit on floors that have irregularities on the surface since they are ‘cushy’. They are also suitable for floors where people keep pets, or children who are a bit messy.

Resilient vinyl floors are available in many different colors, textures and patterns. The process of engraving images on vinyl to imitate wood, marble or tile also adds variety to the collections. This makes installation an enjoyable task since one can arrange the wide variety of vinyl as they wish to create the desired pattern.

They are also available as sheets planks or tiles. The sheets and tiles can be arranged in a variety of patterns. The planks can be used to make the floor look like wood flooring.

When it comes to installation, resilient vinyl is among the easiest DIY floors to install. The earlier generations of vinyl were cumbersome when it came to installation since one had to apply adhesive all over the vinyl to make it stick on the floor. Then came the perimeter adhered vinyl which required one to only apply glue on the perimeter of the vinyl sheets to make them stick to the floor.

However today there is the free floating vinyl which requires no adhesive when installing and that is why it is referred to as floating vinyl. It is the easiest vinyl to install personally. Installation takes place with a few simple steps.

First, one has to take away all the furniture from the room to be floored and then remove the shoe molding from around the room.  Then one has to clean the room thoroughly. For the sheet vinyl make a paper template of the room and set it on the floor.  Then mark out the perimeter of the room on the template and cut the flooring to size according to the template. Then place the flooring on the subfloor.  For the tile and plank vinyl, one can arrange the vinyl on the floor as desired.

When applying the vinyl control the climate of the room by keeping the humidity between 45 and 65%. The old flooring can be kept or removed depending on what one finds suitable.
